Details: In this third major expansion for the prize-winning Carcassonne, we move into the realm of fantasy. My husband are fans of Carcassonne and have a couple of other expansion packs. This one really changes the course of the game. It makes it last longer and big points can be won. Gutted that my husband has now beaten me a the last few times though!

Perfect game and lovely pieces - good quality. You can build on from this pack once you have mastered the game. Great for families who like strategy games.

I have played the full version of the game with family and enjoyed it. I was looking for a board game to help me entertain four kids on a stopover! I chose this one based on reviews and boy I was NOT disappointed. Bear in mind these kids were a) not native English speakers b) aged between 6 and 13 c) hardened smart phone app gamers! However, after a quick 5 minute YouTube intro (do find it - it is well worth while) we got them going and they loved it. They played for about an hour which is pretty good for the 6yo. Later times they returned in twos, threes, with a parent etc. The best features are: Game length is perfect for kids The tiles are visually appealing - but the space needed is not excessive The meeple tokens are nice too Game play is simple to learn - but you can deepen your strategy - though there is a bit of luck involved - Good combo! It is not too combative and has no depiction of violence of battle. That said there is a winner (and therefore losers!) Whilst not a game to be played addictively, it is one kids return to from time to time and enjoy the fun of it! Finally, a good price! What could be improved - first of the instructions - they are not well written Better go to YouTube and watch someone play for a few minutes. Drawback is that it is only up to four players - no more. Also, not so much fun when just two players. Ideal for 3 or 4! There could have been some variant to the rules (e.g. like an inverse game where you aim to keep your meeple off the board rather than set them down, but it doesn't quite work! I am being fussy - its a great game and I fully recommend it to anyone with 3 or four kids to entertain.

Fantastic game which is enhanced by the expansions included. 4/5 stars given as it doesn’t come with a cloth bag for the pieces which seems to ordinarily be included with one of the expansions this ships with.

What a game and what great value. A superb board game. Yes there is a lot to it but it is worth just starting playing with the basic game to familiarise with the mechanics and then add the expansions in to increase the enjoyment and fun levels

We found ourselves playing the base game of Carcassonne increasingly often, and were tempted to buy an expansion. Although this is number 2 in the series we liked the look of it, and it transformed the game. Firstly, we discovered that we had not picked up the farmer element in the base game, which is a whole new dimension in itself. In this expansion, the pig augments the farmer scoring and can often be a game winner. The extra go when using the builder meeple speeds things up, and with the extra land tiles the game strategy is more challenging. We have since bought the first expansion, Inns and Cathedrals, and Carcassonne is now, without doubt, our favourite game.

Would recommend as the first expansion pack. It is fairly easy to pick up the new rules or you can just use the tiles for a longer game play. The pink tiles are amazing and my favourite to play with !

We usually play Carcassone as a two player game - especially now during lockdown! This expansion seems to add an extra dimension, especially to the two player game as there are three new ways to score: 1) Adding a cathedral to your city increases its points hall by 50% (instead of being worth 2 points each tile is worth 3) but ONLY if the city is complete, otherwise it scores nothing. You can use if to inflate your own points or take the risk of using it to block your opponent from scoring. 2) By adding an inn to the road you double the points (a 5 tile road being worth 10 points) but again - only if it is completed, otherwise it will be worth nothing 3) Giant meeples give you the opportunity to steal field/cities off your opponent. Although you still can't put a meeple in a field/city that is already claimed you can use your giant meeple strategically, positioning it somewhere where it will join an established field, stealing all the points for yourself! There are also some new cards that add to play - a card with a garden in the centre surrounded by a city segment on each side being my personal favourite for big scoring. I was initially put off by the high price of this and put off buying it for a while but it was definitely worth it.

good box with sort tray for expansion tiles. easier segregation of which tile is which expansion would be good, and having score board lay flat on one side of the box.

We already had Carcassonne and I wanted expansions so I thought the Big Box would be the best option but we end up only using Inns & Cathedrals and Traders & Builders. We don't like the other expansions. So it may have been cheaper and easier to just buy these two.

This our 4th copy of Carcassonne. We’ve played it all over the world and love the game. We were very disappointed that the tiles of the main set and expansions don’t match so you can tell what’s coming next as you play. So the z man printers, designers, proofers or someone messed up. Z man response is provide a bag for ensuring blind choices of tiles. Very unsatisfactory. Jumbling the tiles in a bag wears them out (we can wear them out without the bag through regular use). Plus it’s hard to tell how many tiles are left during play. So l look forward to z man getting the production right when we need our next replacement.

My four-year-old greatly enjoys playing with this game, although he won't actually play by the rules as written. We divide up the coloured tokens and then take turns placing the tiles. He is not yet willing to actually place the tokens on the tiles when roads are completed, as the rules suggest, so we just place tiles until we run out. He likes to see which different coloured people are on the tiles. To be honest, this is much better turn-taking and rule-following than I've seen with other games, and he does really seem to enjoy it, so I'm in no hurry to change anything. The components are well made and will stand up to repeated play with a pre-schooler.

Play with my son-in-law. Original game quite easy to play, but extension 1 needs more concentration. My tip is to learn each step/stage and then incorporate into game and build up as you explore all the extension games. Makes you think and concentrate - time flies by.

My First Carcassonne is absolutely brilliant for playing with young children. I play with my 4 year old and after only a couple of games she is starting to think more strategically and I can see her skills developing. It's beautifully designed and it's great to play board games that don't rely on the roll of a dice! We love it and I can see us graduating on to the adult version in a couple of years.

Box and game seem ok. BUT Came in clear, see through packaging- it was a present and was seen by the person the gift was intended for as they answered the door. Therefore their Christmas present surprise was ‘ruined’.

This expansion adds a great new dimension to the game and is perfect if you're starting to tire of it following a predictable pattern. The builder enables you to aim higher with your building projects, and we've seen several mega-cities change whole games (ones we never would have had an opportunity to finish before using the builder). The traders mix things up even more, giving players an incentive to finish each others' cities, which really changes the dynamic. The rules for the new pieces are easy to pick up and integrate into the game - we've even taught a few people to play since adding this expansion and have found that, although there are a few more rules to learn, it doesn't really make it much harder. I really reccommend this for new players or for seasoned players.

If you've been buying your Carcassonne expansions in the order of their release, brace yourself, because adding this to your games gives you a VERY different experience. It's a great box, up to the usual standards of quality, and the modifications to the rules are easily understood. I'll not say too much, you can find fully more in-depth reviews elsewhere, but this adds an element of random aggression which leads, inevitably, to a faster game with much smaller constructions being the only safe way to rack up the points. It's an expansion that we certainly use, but only occasionally, and only with folk who're very familiar with the game as is. If your games are already "competitive", this expansion might incite violence.

We love Carcassonne and have many of the other expansion packs, large and small. We played this expansion at a friend's house and bought it the moment we got home. It is such a simple concept yet all about strategy. When you place your barn is crucial, and how you then try and join it up even more so. The Mayor is also a fun addition as you can sneakily steal possession of a city as he is worth as many pennants in that structure. The key finish tiles are great too as you can complete an impossible section without waiting for exactly the right tile, so again, good for blocking/stealing from your opponents. As ever, it seems a costly addition for just 12 tiles, 6 barns and 6 mayors, but it makes for different game play, so a worthwhile twist.

This expansion pack adds a new dimension to Carcassonne - one in which you get to wreck havoc on the world of Carcassonne with a marauding red meeple-eating dragon! The set includes the aforementioned dragon, a fairy (granting an additional 1pt at the start of each round in which the player holds the fairy against an existing meeple) and 30 new tiles. The new tiles introduce new features, enabling you to remove meeples from cities, or to deploy meeples to *any* unoccupied tile on the board. My set was purchased from Zatu games, who provided excellent service, a well packaged product and a timely delivery.

I was looking for another addition to the main game (I also have the princess and the dragon) and I have to say that this is a good one. The product arrived on time and in excellent condition. The game is easy to learn and it helps to score the points in a different way. Highly recommended!

Anyone who is familiar with the game will find this expansion easy to incorporate but be warned cathedrals are a pain in the... It's a fun expansion which freshens up the game if you've played a fair few times! Inns act on roads and cathedrals increase the the value of your city - if you get it closed, if not say goodbye to ALL of those points and your meeple! The four star rating is probably more of a reflection on the people I play with rather than the expansion itself; sabotage aplenty! With more honorable opponents this could easily be five stars.

My son plays this online with his girlfriend who is stuck in New Zealand. He bought me the box set and we have been playing it in an evening. It's as complicated as you want to make it and figuring out strategies is challenging. Love it.

I bought this as a present for my Dad as we both enjoyed Carcassonne but felt that we were getting too clever and not able to enjoy it as we once had. The expansion pack has massively helped and we now have to start to learn both new rules and tactics to try and win the game. Definitely worth purchasing if you enjoy Carcassonne and want to improve and prolong gameplay.

Contains 18 extra cards which add more variation to the Carcassonne game than you might think. A cathedral increases your score if a city is completed but reduces your score if it isn't. Inns on the roads also change the scoring. An extra monastery has a road from both sides. Another set of Meeples (in pink) allows for 6 players though we have found playing with four slows the game enough. We play this game almost every night, the variety always makes it challenging and different. Highly recommended

I got this for my sister as a birthday present, as something she can play with her daughter and enjoy herself, instead of most of the silly games for 5yr olds, and to secretly try and wean them both onto proper board games. I haven't played regular Carcassonne (none of us have), and my niece wasn't there, but myself, the gf, my sister and mum sat around for an hour and a half enjoying it. Simple enough that the 5 year old will be able to join in and fun enough for ages 28-50+ to enjoy. Christmas is already sorted cos I'll get her the grown up version!

This is a great expansion to an already-great game -- when we sit down to play a game of Carcassonne we always pick and choose which expansions to include, but Inns & Cathedrals is such a perfect enhancement to the basegame that we never play without it. As for the seller: it arrived on time (was a Christmas present) and in perfect condition. No complaints!

The BEST extension. It's hard to remember playing without it. Turns the calm paced strategic game on its head with a dragon popping out of a volcano and stomping across the landscape eating meeple! There's still strategy to be had but it disrupts the stronger players tactics so that the others get more of a chance and the addition of princesses that can boot knights out, the protective fairy and magic portals for claiming unclaimed features all make this a wonderful twist on a great game. Go for it!

This pack is a good addition to the basic pack as it gives you the chance to double your score on roads and cities. I t also gives you the score tiles which are eztremely useful as we forget how many times we have been round the score board!

Very good expansion pack. The instructions were in french but other than that all good. Maybe the seller could have made that clearer, as I was looking for the English version. With the internet it was easily solved.

Carcassonne is really a very fun game, I and my friends are all like it~ The most important thing is that this new version Carcassonne looks more sophisticated, but the terrain engraved and completely follow the strict attributes which are in old version, Simply can not be more praise! I want to continue to buy other large expansions, and wish all Carcassonne players good luck!

Does lengthen the game from 35-40 mins to an hour, but adds a few other dimensions to gameplay. Would recommend this expansion pack if you feel you have mastered the base game.

This was a gift to add to the game which has been played a lot. This addition added to the game points and the hills took out some pieces which changed the game for the better.

Who would not enjoy Carcassonne - so who would not delight in the extension - friends son would not consider this pack because it had fairies and princes's in it - oh but then there is the dragon - hungry beast - what was a pleasant 40 min game is not a power struggle in our house - one of the best extension for the game.

This is a fun and interesting addition to the game. The ring master piece has no real purpose as far as I can tell, but the addition of animals really livens up both the game, and the scoreboard. You can get a maximum of 9 points per meeple and up to 8 meeples per circus tile, so it has potential for high scoring games.

A nice add on to the original game. Purchased for our sons birthday as the instructions are not very informative, we have to look online to ensure that we were using it correctly. Great for the game and adds a little more fun.
